Frenemies by Alexa Young

Frenemies
Alexa Young

OVERVIEW

Best friends, Avalon Greene and Halley Brandon are Seaview Middle School’s personal fashion statements. With a chance to share their stylish talent with their fellow scholars, some who are in terrible need of it, together, these fashionistas enter the daily column contest. After three weeks, with their great tips, it’s a shoe in for the school to vote the Style Snarks’ column into becoming permanent. No worries, right? Think Again!

When a simple misunderstanding goes wrong, these best friends find themselves turning their backs on each other, earning themselves a new titles as best frenemies. Avalon, having taken after her layer parents, takes it upon herself to distribute their shared properties, from Pucci to lunch spots and even their joint column. As they alternate between their column, each girl takes it as an opportunity to bash on the other, no matter how humiliating. Will this result in the end of these girls’ friendship?

With more break-ups and make-ups than Justin and Brittany, Frenemies is sure to keep you guessing at all the possibilities. Thankfully, there’s a solution. Hopefully, Freaktastic, the sequel to Frenemies, will take all the guessing out of the game.

REVIEW
This book wasn’t as good as I thought it would be. The plot is good and the fashion tips are phenomenal, but with every passing word, I wasn’t exactly jumping up and down to find out what was going to happen next. I think the main characters should have been older than what they are, considering all the stunts they pulled. I got pretty mad at the party when Halley realized that she wasn’t playing the right video and wasn’t really questioning how it got in there. I actually got excited and thought that maybe it was Sofee who’d done it to get back at Avalon or something, but I guess that would have been too predictable. Over all, it was a Okay book.

I give this one three thumps up.
