New Rating System

I thought with the new year, I needed a new rating system. I realized that when I give a book "thumbs" up, it is solely based on how much I like the book, and doesn't really tell much about the book, although I did try to explain in my review. So, I need your help to decide what I'll base my new ratings on. I have a few "categories" in mind, but I was wondering if you had any more suggestions?

So far I'm thinking about:
Beginning--Like if it grabbed my attention right away. x/10
Ending--Like if it fit the book perfectly/if I like it and what not. x/10
Plot--The story line/idea in general. x/10
maybe cover and title cause that has a impact on the books i choose to read. x/5 each
And I guess if I liked it or not--which would be like the sum /40 ( so far)

But let me know what you think and any suggestions you might have and I'll try and cook something up.

Thanks.

I rate my books by grade, A, B, C, D, F and all the ones in between (plusses and minuses). It's easy because if there's just something small you didn't like about the book, you can give it an A-. I like your new rating system, though!

We got beginning, ending, plot, so how about characters? I would love to rate the cover and layout too since it's really fun.

I like your ideas and also Thao has some good points. Giving a rating can be so hard...which is one of the reasons I don't do it.

I can't really help since I don't actually have a rating system. I thought about the old out of five deal, but then I realized that some of the books that made it onto my "favorite book list" didn't always make the five star cut, while other non-favs would achieve five star status.

Some incredible, life changing books have flaws. Some imperfect books capture the imagination and won't let go. Some 4-star books land in my favorite list because the characters settle into my mind, and I'll find myself wondering "What would ____ do in this situation? What kind of music would they like best?"

I like the idea of a rating system though, and I like having a standard of comparison for books. I actually keep a private rating system for all the NSCG books reviewed, but I doubt I'll ever make it public. My ratings are just too subjective.

I like your multiple catergory rating system, though. I think it will work out well.

Sorry for the longgggg comment.

Bookworm- Thanks, I'm still working on it though

Thao- I think the cover would be fun too.

Lenore- Really, I thought rating was part of reviewing. Well this changes everything. lol

The NSCG- I know what you mean with the out of five deal. That's what I did use then I started having problems like just cause the story doesn't interest me, doesn't mean it's not good. So do I give it a high rating or not?

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Hopefully I'll get this situated and done in time for my next review.
